On Monday August 21st 2017, Brooklyn experienced a 70% solar eclipse. Although not in the path of totality, there was much excitement about the natural event. That morning, we hosted a drop-in workshop for all ages and helped adults and children build their own solar viewer for the eclipse. Assemblywoman Diana Richardson stopped by and participated in the scientific fun.
That afternoon was our Solar Eclipse Science workshop where we learned what was happening and safely viewed the solar eclipse together. We made observations about the change in lighting and noticed differences in our shadows as the eclipse progressed. In anticipation of the next eclipse, our young scientists also participated in a time capsule project set to be opened in April 2014.

A local mom stopped by our morning workshop the went home and built this viewer for the youth on her block to enjoy. Science is always better when its shared!
