Calling all young scientists age 6-10! During select dates when public schools are closed, Kiddie Science will be hosting fun, hands-on science workshops at our location at 568 Rogers Avenue. School Break Science workshops are from 10:30am to 11:45am and all materials are included in the program fee. These standalone workshops focus on chemistry, the Scientific Method, biology, engineering, and more. During each workshop, young scientists will learn scientific vocabulary and conduct experiments based around our topic of exploration.
Our session dates for 2016 are: October 12th | November 8th | November 11th December 27th | December 30th Space is limited and advanced registration is required. Learn more and register for the School Break Science program today! We returned to Cortelyou library on June 14th and explored geology together! Young scientists and their adults used hand magnifiers to make observations about various types of rock and minerals. We then explored the geologic term 'karst'. We explored pictures and then conducted a fun and simple exploration that the young scientists and their adult can duplicate at home. The School Break Science program is made possible thanks to the generous support from the Cortelyou Library Friends, the Cortelyou Library, and individual donors just like you. Thank you! Thanks to support from the Brooklyn Public Library, the Cortelyou Library Friends, and individual donors just like you, the School Break Science program presented three free workshops during the recent spring break.
A total of 52 families participated in the program, with an average of eighteen young scientists per workshop. Over the course of three science workshops, we explored color science and chromatography, refraction, and polymers. Workshops took place at the Pacific and Cortelyou branch libraries. We excitedly return to Cortelyou library in June with two more free science workshops! By becoming a Champion for Young Scientists you support this and other community-based initiatives. Thank you in advance for your support. We look forward to seeing you and your young scientist for an exploration of science-based art at Cortelyou library. Thanks to support from the Friends of Cortelyou Library and individual donors just like you, the School Break Science program is available free of charge to program participants.
