Earth Month

3/31/2015

This beautiful planet is the only home we have. In observation of Earth Day on April 22nd, Kiddie Science is launching a month-long observance of Earth Day. In addition to activities and resources, this initiative aims to help us better connect with our planet. We urge you to do your part to care for our home, and invite you to take the Earth Month pledge and do your part to care for planet Earth.

In order to care for my planet, I pledge to do my part in one or more of the following ways:
  • Place all litter in trash receptacles
Trash that ends up washing into storm drains doesn't simply disappear. It ends up in the water system, which is bad news for all of us. If you place all your litter in a trash receptacle, you not only make for a cleaner neighborhood, but for a cleaner planet.

  • Walk, bike, or use public transportation
Cars emit four major pollutants that contribute to air pollution. This not only makes the air dirty, but it can make you sick. You can do your part in reducing air pollution by walking, biking, or taking public transportation to get to your destination. If this isn't an option, consider carpooling with a friend or co-worker and do your part for our planet.

  • Conserve water
All the water on the planet IS all the water on the planet, so don't waste it! Turning off the water while you brush your teeth can save 8 gallons of water per person, per day. Limiting your shower to 5-7 minutes can save up to 20 gallons of water per day. These little acts add up to a lot of water being conserved.

  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
If you're crafty and creative, you can turn your recyclables into all sorts of things including a bird feeder, a pot for plants, and other crafts. Even if you're not so crafty, you can still help our planet by participating in your local recycling program. Many states recycle paper/cardboard, glass, aluminum, and some plastics.

Show us how you're caring for the Earth! Visit our Facebook page and share your pictures. Keep an eye out for the #EarthMonth activities and resources that we'll be posting throughout the month.
