Family Science 2015

Program highlights:
  • Explore the many ways we use technology, from medical procedures to entertainment through a visit to the Sony Wonder Lab.
  • Come explore energy with Kiddie Science at Cortelyou library!
  • Conduct botany-related experiments and plant a seed to care for at home at the Eastern Parkway library.
  • Get your hands dirty at an urban farm in Brooklyn.
  •  Participate in a scavenger hunt of living things inside Prospect Park. 
  • Explore ocean diversity through a visit to the New York Aquarium.

The much-awaited Family Science program has launched! The goal of this program is to engage families in exploring science together. 

Participants of the Family Science program will explore science together by taking part in theme-based outings and workshops during the summer months.

All Family Science programs are free of charge. Some programs require advanced registration. Click here to learn more about the program.


The Family Science program is made possible by a STEM grant from Colocation America, support from the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation, and individual contributions.

Program Objectives:
  • Engage adults in exploring science with their children.
  • Connect children and adults with local science resources.
  • Improve parental confidence in science.

Program Measures:

Success of meeting program objectives will be measured as follows:
  • Survey before and after workshops/outings
  • Family Science Activity Books
  • Attendance/participation

Topics of Exploration:

  • Exploring Urban Agriculture
  • Earth, Sun, Sky, Stars
  • Biology; The Study of Living Things
  • Energy and Technology
