Science Saturdays: Energy

2/9/2016

Once again, it was a really fun morning exploring energy with your young scientist. Our exploration of this topic included a discussion on what energy is. We discussed key words to define energy (force, power, etc) and we were introduced to the two types of energy we would be exploring: electrical and magnetic energy. For electrical energy, we learned about open and closed circuits, and conductors of electricity.

When exploring magnetic energy, we discussed force (which naturally led to a Star Wars analogy) and magnetism. We went on a magnetic hunt throughout the classroom to determine which materials were magnetic. We applied this knowledge to our understanding of conductors and determined that many metallic materials are both magnetic and conductors of electricity.
