There's several different types of tomatoes currently growing at Q Gardens. During a recent Urban Agriculture workshop, we harvested almost two pounds of assorted yummy tomatoes!

Tomatoes are fruits (they have seeds!) that come in many different shapes, sizes, and colors. They can be red, orange, yellow, pink, purple, black, and even white! Currently, there are over 10,000 different varieties of tomatoes. In New York, tomatoes are best grown between the months of May to mid-October.

The scientific name of the tomato means “wolf peach”, and its thought that the first tomatoes were all yellow. Tomato plants are pretty hardy and easy to grow. They've even been grown in space before in the International Space Station!
