HOME SCHOOL STEAM GROUP
The Home School STEAM Group aims to connect young learners with meaningful, hands-on experiences that expose them to scientific concepts, supports creativity and skill building, and enhances their understanding of related vocabulary.
This fall, young learners age 5 to 10 explore science and creative arts all in one place! To connect the learning in the Lab to home, families receive a weekly electronic newsletter which reviews what we learned and includes pictures. This program meets on Mondays, from 9:45am to 12pm. Masks are required and space is limited. *THE WINTER SESSION OF THIS PROGRAM IS FULL* |
Winter 2023 Home School STEAM Group
Mondays, 9:45am to 12pm
January 23 & 30 | February 6, 13, (no session 2/20), & 2/27
March 6, 13, 20, & 27
During our winter session, young scientists dive into an exploration of biology and the classification of living things. We explore animal characteristics and adaptations in order to learn more about the living things on our planet. The goal of this session is for young scientists to design and build their very own species, using what we've learned about real ones. This session involves handling and observing science specimens that include assorted worms, squid/octopus, snake skin, and more. The first fifteen minutes of our workshop time are dedicated to free exploration of Lab materials, which includes plant care, and feeding the living things that reside on-site.
After a quick break, we transition to creative arts, where we engage in multi-step projects that engage us in applying newly learned skills and concepts. We continue to explore how science and scientific inquiry are part of our everyday lives through the arts.

April 17 & 24 | May 1, 8, 15, & 22 | June 5 & 12
We finish the school year with a hands-on exploration of Earth science! We dive into an exploration of paleontology as we explore fossils from millions of years. Young scientists conduct an excavation, expand or establish their fossil collection, and more. As the weather warms, we plan for and establish the 2023 Kiddie Science Lab garden! We explore soil composition, return nutrients to our garden beds, and learn more about botany. Young scientists spend time planting and gardening as we connect with the nature that exists right here in Brooklyn.
The Kiddie Science Lab is located at 509 Rogers Avenue, door on the right.
