SCIENCE SATURDAYS:
Science Saturdays engages young scientists age 4 to 9 in exploring science in a fun, engaging, hands-on manner. During each workshop, young scientists have time to freely explore Lab materials, engage in the care of the garden plants and animals, and conduct science experiments related to our topic.
Science Saturdays meets from 10am to 12pm on the dates outlined below. All materials are included in the program fee. Advanced registration required and space is limited. The Kiddie Science Lab is located at 509 Rogers Avenue, door on the right. Questions? Contact us at KiddieScience@gmail.com All Science Saturdays workshops are currently full and registration is closed. A new session starts in April! |
Hot & Cold Science - March 7th
**THIS WORKSHOP IS FULL** We explore temperature and chemistry in fun and messy ways! Young scientists use simple ingredients to compare and contrast chemical reactions as we learn about endothermic and exothermic reactions. We don our Lab goggles and coats as we embark on our scientific adventure. It's bubbly, fizzy, amazing science! Gross Science: Blood and Guts - March 14th **THIS WORKSHOP IS FULL** What's blood made of? What happens to food after we eat it? We explore the gross and fascinating science of blood and the digestive system. Young scientists explore the parts of blood, create realistic theater blood (using science!), and recreate the digestive system from beginning to "end" using simple ingredients. There's A Zoo In Here! - March 21st **THIS WORKSHOP IS FULL** Our longtime collaboration with Party Animals NY (formerly Petland Pets) exposes young scientists to the amazing world of living things. We get up close and hands-on with invertebrates, reptiles, mammals, and more. In addition to learning about adaptations and characteristics, we explore the human impact on ecology. Registration starts April 1st-Green Thumb Gardeners
April 25th, May 2nd, & 9th We explore botany and establish the 2020 Lab garden. We grew over 50 pounds of food last year, how much will we grow this year? Young scientists learn about the needs of various plants and decide what, where, and how much to plant. Join us as we learn and grow together! The Brooklyn Chicken Club May 30th, June 6th, & 13th We learn all about chicken anatomy, nutrition, and care. Help chop and mix up food for our backyard hens, Sweet and Sour. Learn about and conduct some of the daily responsibilities that come with caring for chickens. We explore and observe behavior and vocalization as we spend quality time with the chickens. |
