July 5th Garden Harvest

7/6/2022

It begins! As of July 5th, we've harvest one zucchini weighing in at one pound, and a fistful of mixed beans weighing in at a little less. Each growing season, we implement math into our exploration by engaging young scientists in weighing out our harvest. Through the growing season, we add up our grand total and celebrate our success.

Stay tuned to watch our harvest totals change as the growing season moves along.

How Our Gardens Grow

7/1/2022

The 2022 growing season has officially begun and our young scientists have been spending time caring for our plants. This year, thanks to support from Con Edison, we've expanded our growing capabilities to include the backyard. Two new backyard raised garden beds are currently growing zucchini, bush beans, herbs, and wildflowers.

Below is a snapshot of our gardens in June:

New Garden Beds

3/4/2022

The new growing season is being welcomed in by new raised garden beds! Our old garden beds were removed and new garden beds were custom built in their place. Modifications have been made to ensure more efficient growing. In addition to the front garden area, we added two new garden beds in the backyard too!

This is after. We can't wait to learn and grow with you!

2021 Harvest Total

11/2/2021

Brace yourselves, because this will blow you away!

Overnight temperatures are getting cooler, so we recently harvested the remaining eggplant that was edible. The herbs that are currently outside will be making their transition to indoor growing this week. We weighed the eggplant for a grand harvest total of SIXTY NINE pounds!!!

We cheered, we celebrated, and delighted in our successful growing season. Until spring returns!

SIXTY POUNDS!

9/28/2021

It was a moment that received a hearty applause and cheers. This week, we officially harvested SIXTY pounds of edible, kid-grown food from our front garden planters. It's a harvest total that surpasses our most successful growing season by almost twenty pounds.

And we're not done growing yet! We've begun planting for our fall garden, which will include beans and leafy greens such as kale, chard, and spinach.

See and learn more about how our garden grows through out the years.
