We get this question a lot, so decided to make a video response. If you've taken a workshop at the Kiddie Science Lab since our reopening, you'll know that Ms. Carmen is always masked, sometimes all day. So how does she keep her glasses from fogging up? Some of the answer has to do with science! A very special thanks to NYC Health+Hospitals for access to resources that our community needs! As a nonprofit, Kiddie Science was recently approved to access free Covid tests and other related PPE. We made our first pick-up and in less than a week were able to distribute: 12 canisters of hand sanitizing wipes 32 canisters of disinfecting wipes 500 surgical masks 400 Covid tests Thanks to local community members for assisting with car access, we have already scheduled our next pick-up and look forward to continuing to supply our community with what's needed. With that said, we hope you can stop by the Lab as we ring in the new year with more free resources! We'll once again have pre-packed bags available (while supplies last).
To stop the spread of COVID-19 we need to stay ahead of a rapidly evolving and mutating coronavirus. Transmission from person to person increases the likelihood that the virus will grow into a stronger or more contagious strain, like the Delta variant. The more the virus mutates and evolves, the longer it will take for us, as a global community, to end the COVID-19 pandemic.
Millions of people around the world remain unvaccinated, severely hindering COVID-19 eradication efforts. If a vaccine is available to you, please consider being vaccinated to help reduce the likelihood of new variants emerging. If vaccines are not available in your region, please continue to follow local prevention guidelines for masking and social distancing. Together, we can end the COVID-19 pandemic. Thank you for joining us for an informative exploration into how a vaccine trial works! Below is a recording of the family friendly forum.
In addition to learning about vaccine trials, we also got a sneak peek into a real science lab where scientists work right here in New York City as Dr. Andie gives us a brief tour of Harlem Biospace. Cheers to science! Last fall, Ms. Carmen became a Covid vaccine trial volunteer. Not long after, she learned that a good friend and colleague, Dr. Andie, also became a volunteer for a different trial. As two women of color both deeply committed to science education, we want to share with you our firsthand experience with the vaccine development process, and provide context for the associated vocabulary.
We hope your family can join us for this free, kid-friendly forum scheduled for Thursday, March 18th at 4:15pm EST. This forum will take place via Zoom and is expected to be 45 minutes in duration. In addition to the shared information, we'll be taking your questions. Please RSVP HERE for this kid-friendly forum (for adults too)! |
