Jaimie the cabbage

We received Jaimie the Cabbage in late March from one of our junior scientists' school. While travelling home on public transportation, Jaimie had a bumpy ride and officially began its life with us with just four small leaves.

Thankfully, Kiddie Science headquarters gets plenty of sunshine and over the next few months, Jaimie thrived. In fact, the cabbage grew so big and so fast in the summer months that we ultimately moved it to Q Gardens where our young scientists helped care for it during our urban agriculture workshops.

Recently, it was time to harvest Jaimie the cabbage. We were pleasantly surprised that it weighed just under three pounds! Sauteed with onions, garlic, peppers, and turkey bacon, the cabbage made for a delicious homegrown meal.
