Meet Sweet and Sour, two hens that live their lives in the Kiddie Science Lab backyard. Below is a video sharing a little bit of what Ms. Carmen's care responsibilities look like.
Our hens free-range, meaning they spend their entire day outside, coming and going as they wish. Originally, they had access to just a portion of the backyard. That was a year ago. Now they have almost the entire backyard and seem much happier for it. Lots more places to dig holes!
Our hens live in a coop that has been modified slightly for the needs of the Lab. The bottom part is called the run, and on hot or snowy days, the gals prefer to hang out there. As mentioned previously, our hens are free-range, so they come and go at will. Up the stairs is the coop, which is the chicken house. Toward the back of the coop is the nesting box which is normally where eggs are laid. As you'll see, our hens have been laying their eggs in a different location for a few weeks now.
