Roughly sixty days after planting, we expect to harvest sweet, tender Dinosaur Kale. This leafy green vegetable is deep in color and has a tough appearance. Kale is a biennial plant, meaning it produces flowers and seeds only after its second year of growth. This means we won't be digging up all the kale at the end of the growing season! This type of kale is known by many names: Laciato, Cavolo Nero, Tuscan Kale, and Palm Tree Kale. It prefers rich, fertile soil and steady moisture. Dinosaur Kale thrives in full sun, but will tolerate partial sun. To harvest, simply cut the outer leaves at the base when they reach approximately 12" long, removing only a handful at a time. In a few days, more mature leaves will be ready for harvest. |
