You've probably heard of this plant and its immune-boosting properties, but have you seen its seeds before? Used in teas and tinctures, Echinacea is a very popular herb which doubles as an important pollinator plant. The large flower head makes for a big landing pad, and the bright flower color can be seen by bees, butterflies, and birds. Echinacea has lots of great nectar and pollen, making it well worth the visit. We'll be adding it to our garden this year to attract pollinators as they make their way through Brooklyn. Echinacea is pretty easy to grow as it tolerates drought conditions and poor soil. Direct, full sun is preferred, though the plant will tolerate some partial sun. After about 110 days, we expect to have plants that are approximately 3 feet tall! |
