As an extension to our exploration of urban agriculture, we visited the Youth Farm and participated in their Field to Plate program. Our visit began with a tour of the 1-acre farm located right here in Brooklyn! We then harvested foods growing in the garden and made a delicious snack. Afterward, we separated our garbage according to what could and could not be composted. We explored the compost bins on-site and assisted in aerating the soil. It was a fun and educational experience and it was hard to believe that we were still in the middle of an urban environment.
