As we near the end of another calendar year, we take a moment to reflect and pause on our experiences and how they shape where we are today. 2021 was a very challenging year that also delivered tremendous and unexpected joys. Half of the year was spent learning remotely via Zoom while the other was back in-person at the Lab. And now we are on pause.
Over the course of less than two weeks, Covid case numbers in New York state, city, and locally here in Brooklyn have increased tremendously. In light of this, we are postponing the start of some science programs while others are on hiatus until March.
Our decision to once again pause in-person programming at the Lab is one not made lightly. In the spirit of our science-based mission, we make the following recommendations to keep yourself and your loved ones safe and healthy during this time:
- All individuals eligible for Covid vaccination and/or booster doses should receive one.
- Properly wear a surgical, N95, or KN95 mask when around others, and especially when indoors with others not from your household.
- Wash hands frequently as Covid is not the only germ out there.
- Make sure to get outside and go for a walk each day.
Over the next few weeks, we will be launching new Science Story Wednesday videos along with at-home science activities you can enjoy with your young scientist. We'll also be posting lots of chicken videos and updates. Presently, we are working on a Winter Science Kit with four hands-on science activities (more details to come!). We'll also be updating our educational Covid Resources and continue to provide scientifically accurate information that is understandable to a wider audience.
We want to thank you for your ongoing support and we look forward to seeing you again soon at the Kiddie Science Lab! Happy holidays, and may the new year bring moments of reflection, pause, and unexpected joys.
